Senior Controls Design Engineer/ Automatisierungsingenieur (m/f/d)
Responsibilities
- Participate in conceptual equipment design, balancing specifications, cost, quality, layout and lead time
- Contribute to the development of P&IDs for process equipment and utility systems
- Support the creation of detailed engineering drawing packages
- Specify instrumentation and develop instrument lists (BoQs) and location plans
- Design network topologies and prepare detailed network drawings
- Specify and size control, power, and communication cabling
- Select and size electrical and electromechanical components (e.g. valves, solenoids, breakers, VFDs)
- Provide input to sequence of operations (SOO) and functional control specifications
- Prepare RFQs, perform technical bid evaluations, and manage suppliers in line with Tesla standards
- Support construction, commissioning, and start-up activities
Profile
- Experience in industrial controls / automation, with strong hands-on use of EPLAN for electrical schematics and control cabinet layouts, ideally in large-scale utility or manufacturing environments
- Strong capability to work with P&ID diagrams, including interpretation, instrument tagging, loop checks, and integration into control designs.
- Proven experience creating controls documentation such as BoQs, cable lists, I/O lists, Sequence of Operations (SOO), and Cause & Effect matrices for utility systems and safety interlocks
- Deep knowledge in selection and specification of sensors and field devices, including pressure, flow, and temperature sensors, as well as VFDs, MOVs, pumps, and related equipment
- Solid understanding of process and mechanical systems (e.g. cooling water systems, piping, heat exchangers) and their integration with automation and controls
- Familiarity with PLC systems (e.g., Siemens S7 / TIA Portal) for integration and commissioning, as well as sound knowledge of German standards and regulations (DIN, VDE, ATEX, WHG); fluency in English is required, and knowledge of German is an advantage
