A global photonics organization is expanding its R&D function and is looking for a Team Lead – Electronics to take ownership of both technical direction and team development.

As part of a highly respected international group within the photonics industry, the company combines deep scientific expertise with strong engineering capabilities, delivering advanced laser systems and photonic crystal fibers for highly demanding applications.

You will work on low-volume, high-complexity systems, where standard solutions don’t apply and engineering quality is critical.

The R&D organization brings together experts across electronics, optics, mechanics, and system design to develop complex, high-value solutions from concept through to production.

Responsibilities

As Team Lead – Electronics, you will lead a team of engineers while remaining actively involved in design, simulation, and system-level decisions.

This is a leadership role for engineers who want to stay deeply involved in technology while taking ownership of team direction — not a step away from engineering, but a step further into it.

The role reports into the Engineering Manager within R&D and is based in Birkerød, Denmark.

You will:
• Lead a team of 4–6 power electronics engineers (with expected growth)
• Operate in a ~80/20 split between hands-on engineering and leadership
• Act as technical authority within power electronics
• Drive alignment and quality across multiple R&D projects

Key responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of power electronics engineers
• Build and scale the team through hiring and onboarding
• Foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative environment

Technical leadership & direction
• Set direction for power electronics architecture and design decisions
• Guide development of DC/DC converters and system-level electronics (100W–10kW)
• Review and challenge technical solutions to ensure robustness and scalability
• Drive prioritisation and alignment across multiple R&D projects

Execution & delivery
• Contribute hands-on to design, simulation, and validation
• Ensure delivery across performance, quality, and timelines
• Support fast decision-making in an agile, innovation-driven environment

What you will be doing (in practice)
• Leading a team working on low-volume, high-margin, high-complexity systems
• Translating unclear or evolving requirements into structured development
• Making key technical decisions impacting system architecture and performance
• Supporting both deep technical problem-solving and team development

Profile

You likely come from a background as a Senior Power Electronics Engineer but have taken on—or are ready to take on—leadership responsibility.

Experience:
• Strong hands-on experience in power electronics development (100W–10kW range)
• Experience as Technical Lead, Team Lead, or senior engineer mentoring others
• Proven track record across design, validation, and industrialization
• Experience in cross-functional R&D environments

Technical expertise: You bring strong experience in several of the following:

Core Electronics design
• Analog circuit design (e.g. control loops, amplifiers, signal conditioning)
• Hardware and PCB design and productisation
• System-level electronics understanding

Simulation & analysis
• Circuit simulation (e.g. LTspice, Pspice or similar)
• Analysis methods (worst-case, component stress, reliability)

Additional (advantageous)
• Experience with power electronics (e.g. DC/DC or power supply design)
• Experience working with complex system integration across disciplines

Personal Competencies
• A hands-on technical leader who enjoys being close to engineering
• Structured and delivery-focused with high quality standards
• Comfortable making decisions in a complex and fast-paced R&D environment
• Strong collaborator across disciplines
• Motivated by developing both people and technology
