As an employee, you should know the legal framework for terminating an employment contract in Switzerland. Here are the most important points:

Notice periods: according to Art. 335c of the Code of Obligations, the notice period is at least seven days during the probationary period, then at least one month during the first year of service, then at least two months and at least three months after nine years of service. These periods can be agreed individually. As a rule, notice is given at the end of the month. For example, if an employee gives notice on 15 January and has one month's notice, it is only valid at the end of the month, so the employment relationship would end on 28 February.

Form of notice:  Swiss law does not in itself prescribe a form of notice of termination. If no form of notice of termination has been agreed in the employment contract, the notice of termination is by law free of form and can also be given orally or by e-mail.
